Amazon Australia published the local dates on 15 September. The sale opens just after midnight on Tuesday 29 September and closes at the end of Monday 5 October. Amazon's US announcement, published the same week, has its event on 6 and 7 October across 22 countries, with a note that dates vary by country. Anyone reading the global coverage and waiting for 6 October will miss the Australian sale entirely.

What you need

It's a Prime members' sale. Amazon Australia's page says Prime is A$9.99 a month or A$79 a year, with a 30-day free trial for people who haven't tried it before, so a trial started in the last week of September covers the whole sale. Amazon's US announcement promises deals across more than 35 categories, and names Shark, Soundcore by Anker and Sony among the brands taking part there. Amazon Australia hasn't published a local brand list yet, and Australian offers won't necessarily match the US ones.

The tools Amazon is pushing

Amazon Australia's own tips are the usual ones: use the app, build a wish list and turn on deal alerts for it, and use Amazon Lens to scan a product and check whether it's discounted. The new part is Alexa. Amazon says you can ask Alexa to watch a product and tell you when it drops below a price you set, and to buy it for you when it does. Worth knowing before you turn that on: it buys the moment the price hits your number, so set the number carefully.

Why it matters

It's the first big sale before Black Friday and the earliest chance to buy Christmas tech at sale prices with delivery well before December. The catch is the same as every Prime event: the good deals go fast, and it's only for members.
