ASUS announced the ROG Xbox Ally X20 on 25 August 2026 at Gamescom. It is a 20th anniversary limited edition of the ROG Xbox Ally X, in a translucent black chassis that shows a gold internal structure. Pre-orders are open and it reaches shelves on 15 October 2026.

The panel is the real change

The X20 debuts ROG's Nebula HDR display, a 7.4-inch OLED. On a handheld, the screen is the thing you actually stare at for hours, so an OLED panel matters more than another few frames per second. It runs an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme.

Be careful with the rest of the spec sheet. The 24GB of memory, 1TB of storage, 120Hz variable refresh, 1,400-nit peak brightness, magnetic joysticks and swivelling directional pad that have been widely reported are not stated in the ASUS press release I read. They are probably right, they are not confirmed, and I am not going to pass them off as settled.

The bundle

There are two ways to buy it. The handheld on its own at 1,299 US dollars, or a collector bundle at 2,499 US dollars that adds a set of ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses, a dbrand Killswitch case, a 68W power adapter and a custom Pelican case.

The glasses are the interesting inclusion. ASUS quotes a 240Hz micro-OLED display projecting what it describes as a 171-inch virtual screen at four metres. Strapping a big virtual display to a handheld is a genuinely different way to play, and it is the only part of this bundle that is not a case or a charger.

Australian pricing

Australian figures of A$2,499 for the handheld alone and A$4,499 for the bundle have been reported from ASUS's Australian store listing, with pre-orders through the ASUS Australian store and JB Hi-Fi. I could not verify either number on an ASUS Australian page myself, so treat both as reported rather than confirmed.
