Foldables have always had one honest weakness, and it is the bit that folds. Google's answer this year is a redesigned hinge and a claim of triple the durability.
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold was announced alongside the rest of the Pixel 11 range on 12 August 2026. Pre-orders are open and it hits shelves on 20 August.
Built around the hinge
Google's headline claim is that the phone is three times more durable than last year's model. It puts that down to three changes working together: a new gearless hinge protecting the inner display, a glass fibre composite back cover Google describes as nearly impossible to crack, and a new Super Actua outer display using ultra-strong ceramic cover glass.
The hinge also does something about the crease, which is the other thing people complain about on every foldable ever made. Google says the larger bend radius plus a thicker glass layer on the inner display gives improved crease performance. Whether that means you stop seeing it or just stop feeling it is not something a press release can settle.
Screens and battery
Both displays are 20 per cent brighter than last year at 3,600 nits. The Australian Google Store lists the sizes as a 6.5 inch outer and an 8 inch inner panel, with 16GB of RAM and storage at 256GB, 512GB or 1TB.
Battery life is quoted at over 24 hours. Charging gets you to 50 per cent in about 30 minutes on 30W wired, and wireless is 20 per cent faster than the previous Fold with up to 25W Qi 2.2 built in.
The camera stack is the more modest one in the family: 48MP wide, 10.5MP ultrawide and 10.8MP telephoto with 30x Super Zoom, 10MP front and inner cameras, and 4K video. That is a step below the Pixel 11 Pro, which is normal for a folding phone but worth knowing before you spend.
What is not confirmed
Australian pricing for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold was not published on the Google Store pages I could read at the time of writing, and I have not found a confirmed Australian recommended price from Google itself. If you are budgeting, work off last year's Fold pricing and expect it to be no cheaper.
