Android users have been borrowing other people's tracker tags for years. Google has finally built its own, and the pricing is right. The timing is the annoying part.
Google announced the Pixel Tag at Made by Google on 12 August 2026. It is the company's first finder tag, which is a strange sentence to write given how long AirTags have existed.
The hardware is straightforward. Stainless steel body, water resistant, a battery Google says lasts a year, and a built-in speaker that plays a sound when you ping it from your phone.
The network is the actual product. Pixel Tag runs on Google's Find Hub, which Google says draws on over a billion Android devices to locate a missing item once it is out of your own Bluetooth range. Location information is end to end encrypted.
Pricing is US$29 for a single tag or US$99 for a four-pack. Google says it goes on sale from 11 November.
Australian pricing and an Australian on-sale date were not published in Google's own announcement or on the Google Store pages I could read. The Google Store Australia does list a Finder Tag entry under accessories, but no Australian price was shown at the time of writing.
