Samsung announced the laptop on 1 September, ahead of IFA. It is simply called Galaxy Book6, with a 14-inch screen, and it is the more affordable model in a lineup that already had the Book6 Pro and Book6 Pro 360.

What you get

A 14-inch 1920 by 1200 LCD at 350 nits with a 16:10 aspect ratio and an anti-glare finish. Samsung's UK release says Intel Core 5 processors, while its IFA release also mentions Intel Core 3, so expect both tiers depending on configuration. The NPU is rated at up to 15 TOPS, which is enough for Samsung's own Galaxy AI features but well under what Microsoft asks for its Copilot+ PC label.

Memory is 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X, and Samsung's spec sheet says it is soldered, so pick the 16GB if you can. Storage is 256GB or 512GB, with some markets listing 1TB. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4.

Samsung claims up to 25 hours of local video playback from a 61.2Wh battery. That is Samsung's own lab number at 150 nits with Wi-Fi off, so real-world use will be well short of it, but it does suggest a full day is realistic.

Ports are two USB-C, one USB-A, HDMI 1.4 and a headphone jack. HDMI 1.4 means 4K at 30Hz to an external monitor, which is fine for documents and a bit limiting for anything else. It weighs 1.35kg and is 15.7mm thick. Charging is 45W over USB-C and the charger is sold separately in the UK.

The keyboard is not backlit. For a laptop at this price that is a real trade-off worth knowing about before you buy.

Colours and the Galaxy tie-ins

It comes in Grey and, for the first time on a Galaxy Book, Violet Silver. The Samsung-specific features are the usual set: Quick Share, Storage Share for reaching your phone's photos without copying them, Multi Control for one keyboard across devices, Second Screen to use a Galaxy Tab as a monitor, and AI Select for pulling information from whatever is on screen. They are only useful if you already own a Galaxy phone.

Price and Australia

Samsung's own releases give US$799 in the United States, on sale from 5 October through Samsung.com and Amazon, and £799 in the UK where it is available now in Grey. European pricing is being reported around 850 euros and Canada at CA$1,200. Samsung Australia has not published a price or a date. Samsung says availability, specifications and colours vary by region, so the Australian configuration may differ.
