Cheap open-ear clips are the most crowded corner of audio right now. The newest one skipped the queue and came straight to Australia.
SoundPeats has started selling its UU2 clip-on earbuds outside Asia, with an international rollout from 10 August that covers Australia alongside the UK, Canada and a run of European markets. The buds first went on sale in Japan back in April.
What they are
The UU2 is the follow-up to last year's Pop Clip 1. Open-ear clip design that wraps around the outside of your ear, a 12mm titanium-coated driver, LDAC support for higher quality Bluetooth audio, Bluetooth 6.0, and physical buttons instead of touch controls, which anyone who has ever adjusted an earbud with wet hands will appreciate.
SoundPeats claims up to ten hours of playback from the buds and 42 hours once the case is counted, with a ten minute charge good for around two hours. Manufacturer numbers, apply the usual salt.
Price
List price is US$49.99, and the US launch has them running at US$39.99 on a promotional discount, cheaper than the Pop Clip 1 was at launch. I have not confirmed the Australian dollar price, so check the local listing before assuming the conversion is kind.
Why the timing matters here
A few weeks back I covered the CMF Clip Pro, the open-ear clip everyone was talking about, which skipped Australia in its first wave. SoundPeats has walked straight through the door CMF left open. If you wanted a cheap clip bud and got told to wait, you now have an option that ships.
